Book with the Physiotherapy Clinic that will go the extra mile for you on your road to recovery. - Chris Huke (Director) Top Physiotherapy @ Physiofocus Neck & Back Pain Muscle & Joint Injuries Sports Injuries Women’s Health Pilates & Core Stability Post Surgery Orthopaedic Rehab Neck & Back Pain Back pain is a very common complaint – an estimated 60-80% of people will be affected by back pain at some point in their life. Although backpain can occur at any age, it most commonly presents between the age of 30 and 55. Neck pain is also very common, but the incidence is far more sporadic. We encounter a lot of neckpain that presents as an acute injury, but has been in the making for years. The neck is extremely flexible and can spend many years adjusting and compensating to alleviate pain. As a result when people have lived with a “sore neck” for years, they are unnecessarily allowing a disability and permanent dysfunction to develop. Ultimately this will seriously affect their quality of life. Muscle & Joint Injuries There is rarely such a thing as a simple joint/ligament sprain or muscle strain. If you have injured one of the major joints in your body (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee or ankle) it is very likely that your body will be compensating in some manner. This not only prevents you from achieving optimal recovery, but will create secondary problems. Treatment Approach analysis of the condition or mechanism of injury testing and correction of muscle imbalances testing and retraining of stability and motor control rehabilitation for return to daily activities and sport injury prevention programs Sports Injuries The main difference between sports and non-sports injuries is the rehabilitation, expectation for recovery, the understanding of the sports specific demands and biomechanics relating to the injury. At the end of the day if you twist your ankle on the basketball court or fall down a step the treatment to maximise your bodies healing potential and allow for structures to recover is no different. The difference is that the athlete needs to be back on the top of his/her game ASAP! Physiofocus has a comprehensive sports specialist physiotherapy. Two of our therapists hold specialist degrees; one in sports therapy and the other in sports rehabilitation. Both these degrees are separate three year programmes and are in addition to a full physiotherapy degree. So when we say we understand sports injuries, we really mean it! Women’s Health It is very common for women to experience musculoskeletal problems as a result of pregnancy. The mother’s body goes through so many changes, which can lead to pelvic instability, resulting in low back / hip pain. The pelvic floor muscles often become dysfunctional, leading to stress incontinence. The situation does not always get better when your bundle of joy is born, as nursing a baby will often result in upper back and neck pain. We work with our clients to improve women’s health. We Specialise in the treatment of: Pregnancy and post-pregnancy back pain Stress incontinence Osteoporosis prevention and treatment Pilates and Core Stability Ten years ago very few people had heard of Pilates and now it barely needs an introduction. Pilates, invented by Joseph Pilates is by no means the only method of training postural control, stability and strength. However, during his time Joseph Pilates was leaps and bounds ahead of any other training method. He adopted approaches that have worked but only really been understood in the last couple of decades. As Physiotherapists we are in the best position to use this treatment approach to improve your postural control in the presence of pain. We have two reformers in our rehabilitation gym and two therapists who are certified clinical pilates instructors. We offer individual and small group training in Clinical Pilates as part of our approach to postural control and core stability training. This may include mat-work, reformer and/or fitball work under professional guidance following an in depth assessment by one of our physiotherapists. Post Surgical Rehabilitation Treatment after surgery Following orthopaedic surgery, be it a knee replacement, hip replacement, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, ACL reconstruction or spine surgery you should always consult a physiotherapist. We will help you manage the acute swelling, loss of function and pain while restoring normal function as quickly and as safely possible. Pre-Operation If you have sustained a serious injury and are awaiting orthopaedic surgery and have not yet seen a physiotherapist, we strongly advise you see one. The reason for this is not to try and prevent surgery, but to assist your body in being as ready as possible for surgery and subsequently accelerating rehabilitation. We call this prehabilitation. Often there is little intervention needed prior to surgery, but the majority of patients will benefit from regaining some movement and strength prior to an operation. What is Physiotherapy – Click to read more What is Physiotherapy?
